Work With Clients With Dementia

“Work with Clients with Dementia” is a competency-based certification programme. It provides learners with the knowledge and skills required to work with clients with dementia in a variety of settings and residential care.

Participants will be awarded the WSQ Certificate in Work with Clients with Dementia if they achieved 75% attendance rate as well as certified competent through all assessments required by the course.


Outline

  • Apply techniques to support the wellbeing of clients with dementia

    This section covers techniques to minimise client distraction; the use of reality and validation therapy and application of Person-Centred Approach when working with clients with dementia.

  • Provide activities to maintain client’s dignity, skills and health

    To be able to plan activities that focus on a balance between client safety and comfort, autonomy and risk taking, you will also design and implement activities to maintain abilities and independence of person with dementia. Most importantly, to involve and support family caregivers in developing appropriate activities for their loved ones.

  • Develop and implement techniques which minimise the impact of challenging behaviour

    By observing and documenting challenging behaviours and identify common triggers. Evaluate the impact of behavioural changes; develop strategies and implement best practice techniques to respond to such behaviours. You will examine ways to document and review client’s care plan. Also, understand the basics of behaviour management

Target Audience This course is intended for people already working, or those who wish to enter the Community and Social Services industry. This course would be appropriate for people working with dementia, such as programme co-ordinators/ executives, volunteer coordinator, case managers, senior assistant therapist, and social work assistants.

SkillsFuture Credit

All Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their $500 SkillsFuture Credit from the government to pay for a wide range of approved skills-related courses. For more information, visit the SkillsFuture Credit website.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Singaporean or Permanent Residents (Company or Self Sponsored)
  • Sponsoring companies must be registered and/or incorporated in Singapore and must fully sponsor the course fee. Trainees must be employed by the company in accordance to the Employment Act except for sole proprietors, partners, working directors, members of co-operatives or commission-based agents
  • Participants must:
    i. achieve at least 75% attendance
    ii. Complete and certified competent through all required assessments
    iii. Complete post-training surveys conducted between 3-6 months after course end

  5. An invoice will be issued prior to the course commencement. Payment needs to be made prior to course commencement.
